Swan Lake – The Greatest Romantic Ballet (Royal Opera House Live Screening) 0

Posted in Art, Culture, Nightlife

As part of our ongoing partnership with The Royal Ballet, this month The May Fair will host a live screening of the greatest romantic ballet, Swan Lake.

Swans

Scored by Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky and premiered in 1877, the ballet was not well received initially. An 1895 revival proved much more successful and Swan Lake has gone on to become one of the most loved ballets of all time.

It is this 1895 production that Producer Sir Anthony Dowell has gloriously interpreted for The Royal Ballet’s current season, using classical choreography by Lev Ivanov and legendary Ballet Master Marius Petipa.

Black Swan

Adapted from Russian folk tales, the ballet tells the story of Odette, a princess transformed into a swan by an evil sorcerer, and Siegfried, a Prince that falls in love with Odette and resolves to break the curse that holds her captive. Drawing on the opulence of 1890s Russia, dramatic costumes emphasise the difference between the human and spirit worlds, while Fabergé inspired designs and fabrics create a truly wondrous setting.

Set Design

As part of the Royal Opera House live screening season, we’re delighted to be presenting Swan Lake on Tuesday, March 17th in the May Fair Theatre, our luxurious private screening room.
