Today sees the start of the EFG London Jazz Festival 2014, with 10 days of live music spanning more than 50 venues across London.

Jazz Voice, the now-traditional curtain raiser of the festival, gets things underway at The Barbican Centre this evening with a star-studded gala featuring some of the genres finest performers and artists including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Jacob Banks and Georgie Fame.

Celebrating 75 Years of Blue Note Records

The following night Dee Dee Bridgewater headlines her own show at Southbank Centre, undoubtedly one of the events of this year’s festival programme. Other highlights include a celebration of the legendary Blue Note label – Celebrating 75 years of Blue Note Records – at Royal Festival Hall on Saturday, 22nd November, featuring the likes of Jason Moran and Robert Glasper, while Wednesday 19th sees Kris Bowers, who broke through with his work on Jay-Z/Kanye West’s Watch The Throne, perform his powerful mix of electronica, R&B and Hip-Hop at XOYO.

Dizzy Pear Hemingway Daiquiri Tropical Caipirinha

To celebrate the festival, May Fair Bar has created a series of cocktails inspired by the golden age of jazz. Mixing Rum, Grapefruit and Lime Sugar, the Hemingway Daiquiri is a zesty concotion and was a favourite drink of it’s namesake who drank them throughout the roaring twenties. The 1920’s also saw Brazil introduce the Caipirinha to the world. Using Sagatiba Cachaca Rum, we’ve added a tropical twist with passion fruit and lime wedges mixed with vanilla syrup. The third of our jazz trio, the Dizzy Pear, mixes apple, lemon and pear with vodka and brandy and could typically be found in the speakeasies of the prohibition era. However, there’s nothing illegal about these drinks and all three are available in May Fair Bar for the duration of London Jazz Festival.
